SIGE Records interview translation

SIGE was interviewed by Kristoffer at the German magazine OX along with Land of Decay and Utech.

Here is a translation of our interview:

Where and when was the label founded, where do you currently reside?

The SIGE label was founded in Seattle WA in 2008. SIGE now resides on Vashon WA.

Who has founded the label and who is running it today?

The SIGE label was founded by Faith Coloccia and Aaron Turner, and we both still run it today.

Do you make a living with the label? (honestly, no fucking clue who made that one up...)

We make enough money to facilitate other SIGE releases. Whatever we make goes back into the label.

Do you make enough money to cover your expenses?

Yes, currently.

What do you do besides the label?

We are both in various bands and are both graphic designers and artists.
Faith plays in Mamiffer, House of Low Culture, and is also a solo composer for piano, and makes books. Aaron plays in Mamiffer, House of Low Culture, Jodis, Old Man Gloom, Split Cranium, and also runs Hydra Head and is part of Vacation Vinyl record store.
We live on a small north-west island and grow our own food.

What are your preferred genres?

Experimental, abstract, modern composition, avant-metal

Do you have any role models, other labels/label owners that inspired you?

Crass Records, Factory Records,Taiga, Ektro Records, Nihilist, Youth Attack, Gravity Records, people who release their own music/bedroom operations, Meg Cranston,Tadashi Hamada/Daymare Recordings, etc.

Which bands did you sign first, and what's currently on your roster?

Our first record was for Mamiffer. The bands/artists that we currently work with are:
Daniel Menche, Menace Ruine, House of Low Culture, Jodis, Jussi lehtisalo, Pharaoh Overlord, Ides of Gemini, Oakeater, and Grey Machine.

Which release was your most important/best one?

All the releases are important to us.

What fascinates you about running a label?

Working with creative people, getting to know them on a personal level, forming bonds through this process, getting deeper insights into these artists' creations by developing our relationships with them, having our hands directly touching the tactile objects/art pieces we make and the connection that comes through that to the people who obtain them, having the chance to present our music exactly as we feel it should be, becoming part of and helping to maintain a thriving community of artists and musicians, etc....

What's your overall label policy/philosophy?

To work hard at what we do to make it the best it can be in all capacities - to be honest with each other and our collaborators about what we are doing, what we can do and what our intentions are -  to work only on music we truly believe in that is made by people/friends whom we wish to support on from whom we receive mutual support - to keep our operation small so that we can continue to pay attention to every aspect of our releases to ensure that they are developed with care, devotion and a consistent level of overall quality...
